Dear Members,
We wish to inform you of a recent development that could significantly impact our profession.
It had come to our attention that the regulator has gazette the proposed 7th amendment to the Practitioners’ Regulations. This was accompanied by a comment form, with a one-week deadline for submissions.
While we welcome efforts to update and refine regulatory standards, ACE believes the timeframe provided was not sufficient for practitioners to meaningfully engage with the proposed changes. Furthermore, the absence of explanatory notes has made it difficult to assess the intent and implications of the amendments.
These changes affect all practitioners, and we are concerned that the process lacked the level of detailed consultation necessary for amendments of this scope. In response, ACE formally wrote to the regulator requesting that a more inclusive and informed consultation process be undertaken prior to enactment.
Regrettably, we have since been informed that no further consultation will be carried on this proposed amendment.
While this is disappointing, we reaffirm our commitment to advocate for fair, transparent, and inclusive regulatory processes. Our association will continue to monitor developments closely and seek opportunities to ensure that the voices of civil engineers are heard.
Thank you.
President
Association of Civil Engineers (ACE)
